7 Reasons To Study in California

If you have been thinking about going to college but are unsure where to go, California can be a solid location if you enjoy mild weather and cultural diversity.

Students from all over the world choose to attend a California college or university for many reasons. While the cost of living can be higher if you have not lived in California before, there are still plenty of reasons why earning your degree in the Golden State can be an awesome experience.

1. Tech Opportunities

California may be the best state to be in if you have an interest in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. In addition to many unique STEM-related professional and educational opportunities in the Bay Area, there are also internship opportunities at places such as Apple and Google

2. Climate and Geography

Whether attending college or coming to California for another purpose, a top reason many people love the state is due to the weather. With a variety of climate conditions that include hot deserts and snowy mountains, cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles offer year-round temperate climates.

3. Outdoor Recreation

When you need a break from classes, California outdoor recreation offers some of the best surfing, skiing, hiking and camping. With top beaches on the west coast such as Malibu and Santa Monica and incredible national parks such as Yosemite and the Sequoias, the options are endless.

4. Cultural Diversity

Another great thing about studying in California is its national reputation for cultural and racial diversity. In 2014, Latino/as became the state’s largest ethnic group, making up 39% of the population. Asian and Pacific Islanders make up 15% of the population. Many other ethnicities also call the state home as well. For example, African Americans make up 6% of the population.

5. Academic Opportunities

If you want to attend one of the top colleges in the United States, several of them are in California. From public institutions such as Berkeley and UCLA to private colleges such as the University of Southern California, Stanford and the California Institute of Technology, there are numerous options to choose from. Additionally, the state also has many smaller colleges.

For students who are passionate about the environment, California is a national leader in green jobs and the green economy, with major sectors including solar power, wind power and biofuels. Furthermore, the state has some of the greenest universities with programs in sustainability studies and environmental science.

7. Food Culture

If you love to eat, California food culture is something that you must experience. With strong Hispanic, Asian and European influences throughout the state’s regions, there is no shortage of delicious cuisine. In addition, Californians can also enjoy some of the best Mexican food in the country. With this in mind, be sure to complement your meals with regular exercise.
