Introduction: –

Competition is at its peak in today’s world. Every individual is thriving to remain ahead of one other. For that, he adopts various methods. One advantage of this vast competition is the immense rise of technology. This technology has made everyone’s life comfortable.

While I was discussing the ways every individual is thriving to be ahead of each other. Innovation and creativity are the keys to such heavy competition. For this, Research Engineers international in 1997 has developed the design software application dedicated to all the civil/structural engineers in the world helping mankind to a great level by effectively and purposely design any public or private infrastructure with ease in considerably less time.

This software is the STAAD Pro which was later bought by Bentley Systems in 2005. To get full competency in this miracle software, various STAAD pro training are been provided in many regions of our country. Civil Era the national wide online platform for learning and getting full command over the software. Not only various online civil engineering software courses are also been offered by Civil Era. Want to avail of the services, visit civilera.com and click on stand under training tab and follow the instructions.

Not to get deflected from the topic, let’s get to know about the details of STAAD pro.

About STAAD Pro: –

STAAD pro stands for Structural Analysis And Designing Program. A vital design software used by civil and structural engineers worldwide. It is used to model, design, and analyze buildings, dams, bridges, roads, and various other structures of structural engineering. The best thing about STAAD pro is that it’s quite easy to learn and various customized options are there letting its users work according to his/her needs. Graphically advanced software that makes use of every engineering-related concept like cartesian coordinate systems, all kinds of loads and stresses, and many more.

Once you gain proficiency in this software, it’s quite easy to do any kind of design for civil engineering. As we all know, in-depth knowledge is required for designing anything. Thus, a design engineer is prone to every conceptual knowledge of civil engineering. In an actual sense, design engineers are rated as the top-level engineers in the engineering industry in terms of their application to such extreme conceptual and detailed environments.

Many times just to ease the process of STAAD Pro work, many designers import the file from AutoCAD civil 3D where they have modeled the 3D drawing into STAAD Pro wireframe drawing. Let’s get to know basic principles in detail.

How to initiate STAAD pro and its basic principle: –

The best way is to open STAAD pro then by clicking on the file option on the top left corner. Click on the Import option. By selecting the AutoCAD file, import the file. Or if we already have a file then through a recent file click on the required file and open it.

Before that, we need to do several types of configurations where we need to select various design codes. Certain customized options are there which we need to select each of them. After configuring all the important parameters. We are ready to go. STAAD Pro works on the nodal system. A nodal system is a system where we randomly select the points on the workspace and then assign the dimensions to it. This is generally required to maximize the usage of limited workspace. As in reality, the actual building is quite large. The nodal system is quite accurate and faster comparatively.

While we are off to start our first step to designing. A Graphical workspace will appear. At the left bottom of the screen we have cartesian co-ordinates that is X, Y, and Z. X-coordinate is related to horizontal view, Y-coordinate represents the vertical view and Z-coordinate represents the 3D view. 3D view in the true sense, the line drawn from the screen to inside analogously.

Clicking on the geometrical tab on the left screen. We need to mention various nodes on the right screen. The nodes that we mention should be deeply examined otherwise, the minor difference can lead to design breakdowns. As we have modeled the wireframe drawing. The next step is to assign the profile to it.

Profile means rectangle, trapezium, circle, square, etc. But before-hand, we need to select the points on which profile will be assigned to it. While with the help of various views, we select the points and then clicking on profile. We set the profile. As such we can assign support as well. Not only this, but we can also assign dead loads and live loads. Dead loads are a static load that does not vary with time such as the weight of the beams, buildings, etc. In civil engineering, it is of the following types:-

  1. Self-weight load
  2. Floor finish load
  3. Partition wall load
  4. Main wall load
  5. Parapet wall load
  6. Sunk Slab load

Another is the live load. Live loads are the dynamic loads that consist of all the occupancies in the building. It is vital to mention such loads over here as it plays an important role in designing various infrastructure. The core aspect behind the stresses and strain of the designed building. Whatever modeling we need to do, we can do from the left-hand side tabs which contain options like Design, analyze, General, Geometry, Setup, material, Load & definition, Support, Spec, and property. Through the effective use of all these parameters, we can do any kind of design with ease at higher efficiency.

Through STAAD Pro training on the Civil era, you can get in-depth quality knowledge at minimal prices.

Outline in short:-

Above are some of the basic principles of STAAD pro. The latest version being V8i shown above. The application of STAAD pro is very vast. One day is not enough to fully study this software. This content is just a basic idea. We have bought you to the bank of the ocean and told you the exact direction. To go in that particular direction is your job now. Just visit civilera.com and get the in-depth full training at quite a minimal cost.

Thank you for devoting your precious time to reading the whole content. If you liked it, do share it with other aspiring civil engineers. Have a lovely day guys. Bye!
